Extending Our Legacy of Care: Announcing RAHAT under CHINAR Kashmir for Patient Attendants

For over two decades, CHINAR Kashmir has remained deeply rooted in supporting marginalized children, orphans, women, and vulnerable families across Jammu & Kashmir. Through our efforts in education, healthcare, housing, and emergency relief, our mission has always been to bring dignity, relief, and hope to those facing life’s hardest trials.

Today, we are extending that legacy of care to address an urgent, often-overlooked hardship in our healthcare system: the quiet struggle of patient attendants during medical emergencies.

The Unseen Burden Behind Medical Emergencies

When a critical injury or medical crisis strikes, families travel from far-flung districts to major tertiary care centers in Srinagar. While patients receive medical attention inside the wards, their attendants—often family members who refuse to leave their side—face an ordeal of their own.

For those arriving from distant villages and remote areas, basic human needs become an agonizing burden:

  • Where will I sleep tonight?
  • How can I bathe or wash my clothes after days at the hospital?
  • How can I afford hot meals while managing medical bills?

Outside Bone & Joint (B&J) Hospital in Barzulla, it is common to see distressed family members resting on hospital corridors or benches in freezing winters and harsh weather, physically exhausted and emotionally overwhelmed.

Introducing RAHAT: Rest, Assistance, & Hospitality for Attendants in Transit

Recognizing this critical need, CHINAR Kashmir is proud to open the doors to RAHAT, a dedicated Boarding and Lodging Facility situated just steps away from Bone & Joint Hospital, Barzulla.

RAHAT is designed to be more than just a shelter. It is a warm, respectful, and safe sanctuary where attendants can rest, recharge, and maintain their dignity while remaining close to their hospitalized loved ones.

What RAHAT Offers:

  • Clean & Peaceful Bedding: Safe, comfortable beds to ensure attendants get the restful sleep they need.

  • Hot Bathing & Laundry Amenities: Clean facilities to refresh, bathe, and wash clothing during extended stays.

  • Nourishing Daily Meals: Warm, wholesome dinners and morning tea to ease everyday financial strain.

  • Immediate Proximity: Located right near B&J Hospital, allowing attendants to reach their patient’s bedside within minutes.

To encourage shared responsibility and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, services are offered at a modest operational contribution of ₹50 per person.
